Skincare for teens: a simple routine that works
01

Less is more

Social media is full of ten-step routines, acids and serums. For young skin they're often too much: the skin gets irritated, dries out and starts producing more oil. During puberty the basics are enough – cleanse gently, moisturise lightly and protect the skin from the sun.

This article is written for both teens and parents.

What can happen inside a pore?

Skin can have all of these at the same time.

The basic routine

Evening:

That's it. If there are breakouts, one acne product can be added in the evening – but only one at a time, starting a few times a week.

When the barrier feels stressed

Irritation and tightness are signs that your routine needs a review. When the barrier is weak, moisture escapes from the skin more easily.

When can a cosmetologist help?

In Skinique's young skin facial the skin is cleansed thoroughly but gently, inflamed spots aren't squeezed, and at the end we go through the home routine together.

If you want regular care, see the Clean Start programme. For more inflamed skin, your cosmetologist may suggest the GIGI Clear Skin Control facial or LED blue light.

06

For parents: when to see a doctor

A facial helps when breakouts are mild or moderate. Book your teen a doctor's appointment if:

If the client is under 18, mention it when booking – a guardian's consent is needed. Younger children's skin is covered in a child's skin.
