Not all waxes are equal. Here is how LYCON hot wax differs from ordinary wax and sugaring, and why Skinique waxes only with LYCON.
Skinique editorial

Many people have tried waxing once, found it painful and gone back to the razor. Often, though, the problem isn't waxing itself but the wax and the technique. Ordinary strip wax sticks to both the hair and the skin, so every pull also lifts surface skin cells – which is why the skin turns red and sore.
At Skinique we use professional waxes from Australian brand LYCON, developed to make waxing feel as small as possible and help the skin settle quickly.
LYCON hot waxes are applied warm, without a cloth strip. On the skin the wax cools into a flexible film that shrinks slightly and grips each hair tightly. When it is removed, it pulls the hair out from the root while barely sticking to the skin.
In practice:
LYCON waxes work at a lower temperature than many traditional hot waxes, which matters on sensitive areas. At Skinique hot wax is used on every area; only the legs are waxed with strip wax, which suits large, even areas.
A simple explanation of waxing and why hair grows back.

The wax is applied to the skin and grips the hair. The wax is chosen for the area and your skin.
The hair comes out from the root, but the follicle stays, so the hair grows back over time.
Good waxing is more than wax. In the LYCON system the skin is cleansed first, and a thin pre-wax oil is applied to areas waxed with hot wax. The oil protects the skin so the wax sticks only to the hair.
After waxing a soothing aftercare product cools the skin and reduces redness. At home your skin still needs gentle exfoliation and moisture – see before and after waxing.
Sugaring is popular in Finland, and many ask which is better. Both remove hair from the root and both last for weeks. But there are differences:
At Skinique we wax only with LYCON, because we want to do one method really well. If you're used to sugaring, you can switch to waxing at any time – just tell us when you were last treated.
Yes, LYCON was developed for sensitive areas and sensitive skin. Still, everyone has their own pain threshold and skin sensitivities. Tell us at the start if your skin has reacted to waxing before, if you have allergies or if you use medication that affects the skin.
We don't wax areas with wounds, a rash, sunburn or inflammation, or clients taking isotretinoin.
Every area from face to legs. The most booked are the Brazilian, underarms and full legs. For men we wax any area on request except the intimate area, most often the back and chest. Combining several areas in one visit makes a package cheaper; the options are listed on the waxing page.
