Your first visit to a cosmetologist: how it goes and how to prepare

Good care starts with a conversation

On your first visit the most important thing isn't which treatment you choose, but that the cosmetologist gets to know your skin. That's why every visit at Skinique begins with a short conversation: what concerns you, which products you use, what treatments you've tried and what you'd like.

You don't need to know the jargon or pick the perfect treatment in advance. Just tell us in your own words what you'd like to change – your cosmetologist will help with the rest.

How do I choose my first treatment?

If you're not sure, start with one of these:

• Classic facial – a gentle basic treatment for all skin types, €80
• Special facial – your cosmetologist plans the treatment around your skin during the visit, €95
• Hydrapeel – when you want clean, glowing skin without redness, €95

What should I mention in advance?

These affect which treatment is safe and effective for you:

• medication, especially acne medication, antibiotics, blood thinners and hormone treatments
• retinoids, acids and other active skincare
• allergies and previous reactions to cosmetics
• pregnancy and breastfeeding
• recent treatments such as fillers, lasers or peels
• a pacemaker and metal implants (for device treatments)

You can add them to the booking notes or mention them at the start. The information is confidential.

What happens during the visit?

When you arrive at Skinique in Matinkylä, your cosmetologist welcomes you into a calm treatment room. After the chat, your skin is cleansed and assessed under the light: hydration, oiliness, pores, sensitivity and any changes.

During the treatment you can rest. Your cosmetologist explains each step, and you can ask questions or say if anything feels uncomfortable at any time. At the end you get home-care advice and, if useful, a suggestion for what treatment or series would benefit your skin – with no obligation to buy anything.

Before your visit

• You can come wearing make-up – it's removed at the start.
• Bring or photograph the products you use at home if you'd like advice.
• Don't try new strong products or peels for a few days before.
• If you're coming for a device treatment, read the advice on its page first.
• Allow enough time so you don't have to rush – it's nice to stay calm for a moment afterwards.
